Aerial Assualt
As you walk toward Cleveland Browns Stadium on game day, it gets pretty chaotic. The crowd is dense and there are people yelling, cheering, and swearing. Some have obviously been tailgating all morning and others are merely excited. Imagine walking through this crowd at 9 years old. Sammie barely comes up to most people's chest and is pretty hard to spot in this the sea of adults. This is one of those rare times where she gladly holds my hand (for dear life). For her it's basically an aerial assault of F-bombs and no one even realizes that she's there, hearing every word. Granted none of this language is new to her, but she never hears so much at one time and in such a variety of uses. As we were walking to the game last week, a gentlemen in front of us was about to drop the F-bomb when he looked back and saw Sammie (who probably looked a little frightened at this point). He quickly changed his mind and said crap instead!! I made eye contact with him and thanked him (after having to stop myself from hugging him)! This was the first time I have ever seen someone edit their language around a child, and I greatly appreciated it! It made me feel good about mankind and helped take some of the sting out of the disappointing loss that followed!
